Hugh Cole is a Partner of AGI – The Goldratt Institute, working as Vice President, Solutions Development. He has been associated with the Institute since 1993. His focus includes teaching and customizing the application of the Theory of Constraints (TOC) in its entirety – from the strategic and tactical use of the TOC Thinking Processes to the implementation of its various Logistical Applications. Working across both the military and commercial worlds, from maintenance and repair operations (MRO), to production, distribution, project management, marketing, and sales, Hugh has applied TOC to such diverse industries as electronics, food processing, metals, printing, fabrication and textiles – in Fortune 25 companies to family-owned businesses.

Since late 2003, much of his time has been devoted to designing, training and implementing an initiative called “Enterprise AIRSpeed”, in which AGI functions as the prime contractor across the Naval Aviation Enterprise (NAE). It has been described as ‘revolutionizing Naval Aviation’ as it approaches operational strategy of aviation maintenance and supply from a ‘system perspective’ with the goal of improving Readiness. The initiative won the 2007 NAVAIR Commander’s National Award for its significant positive impact on Naval and Marine Aviation. Current efforts include design and implementation of the Marine Aviation Logistics Supply Program (MALSPII) in support of the forward-deployed war fighter, strategy and tactics to improve readiness of P-3 aircraft community, and improving maintenance and repair operations for key F/A-18 Super Hornet components.

As part of his role as Partner, Hugh educates and mentors others to become TOC Experts, certifying them in the areas of TOC Supply Chain Design and Deployment. He is a lifetime member of the Theory of Constraints International Certification Organization (TOCICO) and a frequent lecturer and speaker in universities and professional organizations.

Prior to his association with AGI, Hugh worked in industry for more than eighteen years holding both line and staff positions in production, distribution, engineering and marketing. Over this period of time his responsibilities covered a wide range of activities – from Plant and Production Management, to Engineering, to Operations Analysis, to Director of Operations over multiple plant facilities.

Hugh received a B.S. Degree in Engineering Management in 1972 from, then, University of Missouri – Rolla and a Professional Degree in Engineering Management from Missouri S&T in 2008. He is currently serving on the Executive Committee of the Order of the Golden Shillelagh (OGS).

Hugh and is wife, Linda, an elementary school teacher, have resided in Mission Viejo, CA since 1988, after 16 years and nine homes in the corporate world. Son, Doug, and daughter, Lindsay both reside in the Los Angeles area and are actively pursuing their own careers.

As an MU-Rolla student, Terry learned about teamwork playing basketball for the Miners and as a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. After earning a BS degree in Engineering Management, he later received a Professional Engineering Degree (1998).

After graduation in 1977, Terry went to work as a Sales Engineer for Fisher Controls, then a subsidiary of Monsanto, in Marshalltown, Iowa. Over the next 20 years, he worked his way up the management ladder. His leadership roles have included Marshalltown Plant Manager (1987), Global Business Leader for the Hydrocarbon Industry (1991), and Vice President of Sales.

In 1992, Monsanto sold Fisher Controls to Emerson Electric, a diversified global technology company based in St. Louis. Emerson made Fisher® control valves part of its Emerson Process Management business group. In November 1994, Terry became President of the Fisher Division. After multiple growth-spurts and acquisitions, the Fisher division doubled its sales and added Valve Automation (2003) and Instrument and Valve Services (2009) groups to its global organization. Over the past 16 years, under Terry’s leadership, the Fisher Division has became a world leader in the supply of control valves, positioning instruments, and related after market services. With 5000 employees and 15 manufacturing and 45 service locations worldwide, it is one of the largest divisions owned by Emerson, which is a $20.9 billion per year corporation.

While maintaining his professional schedule, Terry is a past Chairman of the Valve Manufacturers Association, a past President of the Marshalltown Chamber of Commerce, and a past Board Member of the Martha Ellen Tye Foundation. Terry currently serves as a member of the Construction Industry Institute, an elder of the First Presbyterian Church, and as Chairman of the Marshalltown Education Partnership Steering Committee.

He and his wife, Rhonda, reside in Marshalltown and have four grown children: daughter Ashley (Lucas) Johnson and grandson, Preston, of Appleton, Wisconsin; son, Aaron, will graduate from Drake University in May; and daughters Allison and Anna are both students at Iowa State University.

Bernard (Bernie) R. Sarchet joined the UMR faculty in 1967, as professor and founding chair of the Engineering Management Department. Over the next 33 years the department was never far from his attention or his heart. Before retiring as chair in 1981, he had assembled an outstanding faculty and secured approval for a PhD program in engineering management. Bernie was also founding member and first national president of the American Society for Engineering Management. In 1986, Bernie and his wife, Le, established two scholarship funds to support engineering management students at UMR. In 1992, ASEM established an award in his name.

Even after retiring from the chairmanship in 1981, Bernie continued his work on behalf of the department and of the University. He assisted in raising funds for the Engineering Management Building, helped develop the UMR Order of the Golden Shillelagh, and spearheaded the development of the Video Communications Center at UMR, which led to membership in the National Technological University, a consortium of universities that provide distance learning via satellite.

In 1998, Bernie was listed in the reference book “Outstanding People of the 20th Century” in recognition of his leadership and accomplishments in higher education and in Industry. Some of Bernie’s honors include an Alumni Merit Award from the MSM-UMR Alumni Association and a special plaque from NTU for his work in helping NTU become a pioneer in video-based engineering education. He also was referenced in “American Men and Women of Science,” “Who’s Who in America,” “Who’s Who in Engineering,” “Who’s Who in American Education,” and in numerous other reference works. Bernie Sarchet passed away on February 26, 2000, and his wife, Le, in August of 2002. Their three daughters, Renee E. Erickson, Dawne E. Sarchet, and Melanie A. Koewing, remain deeply grateful to both of them for the devotion and commitment with which they lived their lives.
